The Summer Kitchen

The summer kitchen was built in spring 2013 to give us some extra socialising space under cover – it rains occasionally in Todmorden.

It’s made of old floor beams from a warehouse in Barnsley that came up on Freegle as “firewood” but turned out to be perfectly sound enough to use for garden structures.

It extends off the porch and has a corrugated plastic roof, so it’s suitable for hanging out in when it’s raining. It enlarges the living area so that we can entertain (which we do a lot of) without having to cram everyone into the tiny cabin.

There’s a barbecue that we mainly use as a campfire substitute on rainy party evenings.

Outdoor kitchen

It’s got a wisteria on one corner and a jasmine on another. It’s also got a clematis montana and a climbing rose, as well as a bit of a perennial border around the base and some hanging baskets and window boxes.

It makes an absolutely lovely place to sit and drink tea (or gin) in summer.
