Quick Catch-up

We supported Labour as hard as we could. Pretty good result.

I helped Catie make a pretty awesome wedding dress and matching jacket.

We went to Skye to attend the wedding and found this amazing beach.

I came back feeling much better about getting on with my job and have just installed the first bit of ceiling in the while build.

Insulation. That’s Going To Be A Recurring Theme…

Sorry, aside from the insulation, there really isn’t much being done about the build. I’m just so tired of it that I’m taking several weeks off. Richard is bravely soldiering on. Fast on the way to Boggart Hall canonisation, that one.

insulation

Here’s an adorable video of him doing a meticulous job making every piece of insulation fit perfectly.

Meanwhile, there’s an election coming and I heartily and robustly encourage anyone on or near the fence to vote Labour. Come on, people, lets prove we really do want change.

I know it’s a long shot, but to be honest, I want what Jeremy’s peddling and I don’t give a toss whether he’s “not a powerful leader” because Hitler was a powerful leader, that’s not always the best criterion…

So anyway, poppies! How lovely.

australians

The lovely Australian gap year kids have gone on their travels, good luck to them, hope Europe treats them well. We saw them off with a rather epic game of RoboRally on their last night.

And so, another blog post ends with nothing really having been said, much. Sorry guys. I fully intend to get back to work soon. By soon I mean mid-June. I apologise. Mental health comes first these days.

Some pictures, but not really of the house

Actually, a lot has been done, and I promise to take some pictures of it soon, but meanwhile, we’ve been doing a lot of un-house-related stuff so here are some pretty pictures to help you wait.

We went down to Poole and visited Compton Gardens, which was lovely and very inspiring for our future gardening. Lots of acers and rhododendrons. The pond bit might be more difficult…

We also visited a pretty church with an interesting vaulted ceiling and pretty panelled railing to its mezzanine level.

Simon came to visit and stayed in the wendy house. It’s bluebell season and really beautiful just now.

Really, it’s quite breathtaking. I love this place.

20170506_132022

Anna and I went on a muck hunt the other day, which turned out to be a great adventure involving asking several locals until we turned up at a plant sale at a tiny village chapel and somebody pointed us toward somebody else, who had a friend who had horses and a muck pile and said we could help ourselves.

Eleven bags later…

Today we did very little indeed on the house, but walked to Hebden Bridge on the canal. It was lovely.

We met a guy who makes amazing folding chairs on his boat/workshop. He’s called Toby and you can see his wares at www.tobychairs.com. They are totally comfy and when I can afford it I’m going to buy two.

Right, more later and I will take pictures of all the real progress, but right now my roast asparagus is calling.

Quick Update

Not a lot of the pretty kind of progress has happened since my last post, sorry for consequent lack of comms.

Ben is here, so there are now interior walls and a lot of little jobs have been done that I have been putting off for months, because they felt like mountains to me but were molehills to him. Bit of a saviour, Ben.

Quite a lot of insulation has gone in, thanks to the diligent and skilled work of Richard and his erstwhile apprentice Brad, who’s now gone but hopefully will return. I really should be helping with that job. I really will get on with that…

It’s been a busy household since the end of the stove job, what with returned residents, new volunteers and a visit from Daniel and Ramona (remember them? See summer 3 years ago) and I’ve only just had the time and headspace to start to feel like a human again.

And then my dad reminds me to blog, when I haven’t got any pictures due to aforementioned headspace issues.  I’ll go take some and do a pictures entry soon.
